“Continuing the Tradition of Excellence”
Welcome to my website! I am exploring the possibility of becoming a candidate for State Representative for the 25th Middlesex District should the appropriate opportunity arise. I would bring to that seat, and to my representation of the residents of the mid-Cambridge neighborhoods that comprise the 25th Middlesex as well as all citizens of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts, a progressive Democratic viewpoint that will honor and continue the tradition of excellence of representation that has characterized our district for the past decade.
If my campaign does continue into an active phase, I hope that this website can become a lively forum for discussion of the issues that face our neighborhoods, our Commonwealth, and our planet. For now, let me tell you that I am a life-long Democrat who has always stood in the reform and progressive wings of our party. I worked long and hard on Al Gore’s campaign in 2000 and Howard Dean’s in 2004 (and of course John Kerry’s after the primaries), as well as numerous national, state and local races throughout my life.

As a social progressive, I have advocated for fair and affordable health care, access to educational opportunities for all members of our society, and creation of decent jobs and affordable housing for those who have been forced to the margins of our communities.
As a firm believer in the value of diversity, I have advocated for the inclusion of all elements of society in our communities and our governmental systems.
As a life-long environmentalist, I have advocated for transforming our society into one that is in balance and sustainable for the long term.
And as a progressive Democrat, I have been active in supporting exciting new candidates and ideas so that our progressive voices may be heard throughout the 21st century and beyond.
I am currently Chair of the Ward 6 Democrat Committee in Cambridge, and was one of the founders and current Chair of Progressive Democrats of Cambridge. I currently also serve on the Boards of Citizens for Participation in Political Action (CPPAX) and Bay State Stonewall Democrats, and am an appointed member of the City of Cambridge Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual & Transgender Commission. I am a member of The First Parish in Cambridge (Unitarian Universalist) and B'nai Or of Boston, and a former President of Unitarian Universalists for Jewish Awareness.
I hold an A.B. in Economics from the University of Pennsylvania, the Juris Doctor degree from the University of Pennsylvania Law School and a Master of Divinity from Harvard.
I live on Cambridge Street near Harvard Square with my partner of twenty years (and now legal spouse), Linda Sophia Pinti.
I hope to have the opportunity to meet every voter in the district before next September’s primary! In the meantime, you can contact me by writing to Lesley@LesleyPhillips.org.
